As a child, Maureen would play with her dolls, dressing them up differently. Little did anyone know then, that one day her passion would transform her into an award-winning international designer from Philippines – respected and loved for her bespoke bridal couture.
And, Gordhan Singh Rathore, a Rajput by birth & a brilliant techie by profession, is a genuine gentleman at heart. Though his extra-curricular activities often involved match-making for his friends, he never found his match until the day he met Maureen. Interestingly, Maureen was there as a chaperone for her best-friend.
Gordhan fell in love with Maureen and knew “She is the one”, the very moment he met her.
Maureen, a believer in serendipity, Prince Charming, make-or-break signs, liked Gordhan very very much but desperately sought for a sign before she could say “Yes” to him.
And the day came when the heavens opened up to show her the ultimate sign. Well, this was only the beginning as love isn’t about just two people.
The path of love is not easy and like many, these two love-birds had to face man-made barriers. Their love had to stand the test of time.
Being human is to be vulnerable, to be imperfect, to be angry and sad at times. But being human also means to be patient, to be hopeful, to believe in love and go beyond your way to make things happen.
And these two were no different.
They loved each other so much, that the whole universe conspired to bring them together forever, and family & friends stood testimony to the grand wedding celebrations in two countries – Philippines & India.
Gordhan & Maureen are very dear friends of ours and their emotional rollercoaster completely got us hooked.
We did a fun-filled couple session in and around Mumbai. And Sam (Samiul) felt he had to be part of their big day.
The Wedding, at the Malate Catholic Church (Our Lady of Remedies Parish), was followed by the reception at AG New World Manila Bay Hotel (then Hyatt Regency Manila) and all of us had an awesome time.
Though it was very challenging for Sam to document their Filipino wedding at Manila all by himself, with so much love around him, he found it to be very exciting and fulfilling.
The experience is all the more memorable as their wedding story got published by celebrated international magazine, Weddings & Beyond, in their special edition.
Also, along with other incredible wedding stories, it earned Best Story of the Year by the very popular MyWed, an online directory of international wedding photographers.
Their Indian wedding at Jodhpur was quite different, but equally beautiful – an intimate wedding, filled with organic elements, that exuded a rustic charm. And finally, the Indian Prince Charming rode the horse and reached the Filipina Disney Princess to sweep her off the feet.
Maureen continues to speak broken Hindi and makes roti in various shapes and sizes, and Gordhan continues to prepare dal. And we pray that this dal-roti jodi continues to stay happy for ever and ever.
